Introducing Knightsbridge and Sloane Square, our new end-fixing full cassette garden awnings

Wide bi-fold doors can open a whole room onto the garden, but they can also leave few places to fix a patio awning. It’s a challenge our installation team has raised for several years, and it’s why we’ve added two end-fixing full cassette awnings to our residential range.

The Knightsbridge is a slimline model for smaller patios and daytime shade. The Sloane Square offers a wider span, a deeper projection and integrated lighting for evenings outdoors. Both use brackets at either end of the cassette, giving us more flexibility when fitting an awning above wide doors or windows.

What makes an end-fixing awning different?

An end-fixing awning has a bracket at each end of the cassette. Where the wall can support the awning at both ends, there’s no need for a central bracket. This is particularly useful for wide bi-fold doors or large windows where the wall directly above the centre of the frame offers limited space for a secure fixing.

For properties where the standard end brackets need additional fixing points, we worked with Siplan to develop a longer wall bracket for the UK market. It extends horizontally along the wall, allowing our installers to reach additional fixing points while keeping the bracket close to the line of the cassette. Where the wall construction allows, this gives a more discreet finish than a vertical support bracket. Our surveyor will assess which arrangement suits your property.

Why we chose Siplan

When we set out to add an end-fixing model to our range, we wanted components that our installers had confidence in and a price that made sense for our residential customers. Our search brought us to Siplan, a Spanish solar protection designer and manufacturer that began operating in 1992 from a 500 m² facility. Today, its facilities across Spain cover more than 60,000 m².

After meeting the Siplan team in the UK, we travelled to Zaragoza to see their operation and examine the components first-hand. That visit helped us select the two systems we now offer exclusively in the UK through Awning Depot as the Knightsbridge and Sloane Square.

Knightsbridge and Sloane Square compared

Both models have a full cassette that encloses the fabric and folding arms when the awning is retracted. The main differences are how much of the patio each can shade, the shape of the closed cassette and the lighting options.

Which awning suits your patio?

If you want to shade a bistro table outside the kitchen doors, the Knightsbridge starts at just 2 m wide and offers a shallow 1.5 m projection. Its rounded cassette sits neatly above the doors when closed, and you can add a fabric valance if you prefer a more traditional finish.

For a larger dining terrace, the Sloane Square offers up to 3.5 m of projection to carry the shade further across the table. If dinner runs into the evening, you can dim the warm white lighting in the arms and along the cassette without having to move indoors.

If you’re planning an awning above bi-fold doors or a wide patio window, get in touch with Awning Depot to arrange a survey. We’ll check the available fixing points and help you choose the width and projection that suit your space.
